Connect your BlackBerry PlayBook to your BlackBerry smartphone

If you are running BlackBerry® device software 5.0 or later on your BlackBerry smartphone, you can connect your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet to your smartphone to access email, calendars, BlackBerry® Messenger files and other data directly from your PlayBook tablet.

You can connect your tablet and smartphone using a barcode and the BlackBerry Bridge application, or manually pair them using just the BlackBerry® Bridge™ application.

To connect your PlayBook tablet and smartphone, the BlackBerry Bridge application must be installed on your smartphone. You can easily download it using the barcode on your PlayBook tablet.

Note: If your phone does not have a camera or is unable to scan the barcode, you can also search for and download the BlackBerry Bridge application in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront on your phone.

To download the BlackBerry Bridge application using a barcode on your PlayBook tablet:

  1. On your PlayBook tablet home screen, on the Status bar, tap Settings and select BlackBerry Bridge
  2. Tap Setup
  3. If necessary, enter a name for your tablet
  4. Tap Next
  5. Tap Show Barcode
  6. On your BlackBerry smartphone home screen, click the App World icon
  7. Press the Menu key
  8. Click Scan Barcode
  9. To scan the barcode, point your smartphone camera at the barcode that appears on your PlayBook tablet
  10. On your smartphone, click the BlackBerry Bridge application
  11. Click Download
  12. Enter your BlackBerry ID login information
  13. If necessary, enter your smartphone Password

Connecting the Devices

You can connect the two devices by using either the PlayBook tablet's barcode or the BlackBerry Bridge application to manually pair them.

Note: Your tablet connects to your smartphone using Bluetooth® technology, so before you try to connect, verify that the Bluetooth connection on your smartphone is turned on and that your smartphone is within range of your PlayBook.

To connect using the barcode:

  1. On your PlayBook tablet home screen, on the Status bar, tap Settings then select BlackBerry Bridge
  2. Tap Setup
  3. If necessary, enter a name for your tablet
  4. Tap Next and then tap Continue
  5. On your BlackBerry smartphone, open the BlackBerry Bridge application
  6. In the BlackBerry Bridge application, click Add Device and then click Next
  7. To scan the barcode, point your smartphone Camera at the barcode that appears on your PlayBook tablet

To manually connect the two devices:

  1. On your PlayBook tablet home screen, on the Status bar, tap Settings then select BlackBerry Bridge
  2. Tap Setup
  3. If necessary, enter a name for the tablet
  4. Tap Next > Continue > Manual Pairing
  5. On your BlackBerry smartphone, open the BlackBerry Bridge application
  6. In the BlackBerry Bridge Application, click Add Device
  7. Click Manual Setup
  8. Select your PlayBook tablet from the list
  9. Confirm that the pairing number is the same for the tablet and smartphone and click Yes
  10. Click Yes to accept the connect request
