FAQs about GPS and Wi-Fi Calling on your Samsung Galaxy S 4 mini

Last Updated: May 16, 2014

Answers to some of your questions about GPS and Wi-Fi Calling

  • Does GPS need to be turned on to use Wi-Fi calling?

Wi-Fi calling requires GPS to be turned on on your Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. The Wi-Fi calling Locate Me option uses GPS and Google Mapping to determine your location if a 911 call is made over Wi-Fi.

Follow these steps to Enable GPS. When enabling GPS, make sure Use GPS Satellites is checked.

  • Do I need to enter the location information each time I connect to a Wi-Fi network?

Wi-Fi calling must be enabled for each new Wi-Fi network. Once Wi-Fi calling is enabled for the network, the registered location information is stored on your Samsung Galaxy S4 mini along with the network name. The phone will automatically switch to Wi-Fi Calling mode when returning to the saved network if Wi-Fi Calling mode is enabled.

Follow these steps to Add or Remove a Network for Wi-Fi Calling.

  • When do need to update my location information?

Location information is stored on your Samsung Galaxy S4 mini along with the network name. If you connect to a new network with the same name (for example, a chain restaurant or coffee shop), the address information must be updated manually.

    Update the location information.

  • Why is my address not accepted?
  • If your address is not accepted, make sure the address is correct. If the address is still invalid, the Wi-Fi Calling service may not be available at that location.
