Just like your computer, your phone's software needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Follow the steps below to check your current version and perform any needed updates.

Check the version on your phone

To find the software version on your BlackBerry^® Curve™ 8330 smartphone:

1. From the Main Menu screen, select Options (wrench icon)
2. Select About
3. Software Version will be listed on the third line in the format 4.x.x.xxx

Update your software

Important Note: If you currently have 4.5.x.xxx software, you can get your upgrade over the air or through your computer. If you have software below 4.5.x.xxx, you can only get your upgrade through your computer.

Warning: You will be unable to use your BlackBerry smartphone or make emergency calls for up to 2 hours during the installation process.

To update your BlackBerry Curve 8330 over the air:

1. From the Main Menu screen, select Options (wrench icon)
2. Select Advanced Options > Wireless Upgrade > click Check for Upgrades
3. Select the 4.5.0.186 wireless BlackBerry Device Software upgrade package
4. Click Next > Start Download > Upgrade Now
• Note: To schedule a time to install the BlackBerry Device Software, click Schedule Upgrade
5. Click Upgrade Now again

To update your BlackBerry Curve 8330 through your computer:

1. Go to our BlackBerry Curve 8330 download page to get the download file
2. Find the software version you need and click More Details
3. Scroll to the bottom and select Download
4. A pop-up box will ask you to either Run or Save the download; choose Save and save to your computer desktop
5. Once the download is saved, double-click the file that was saved to your desktop and when the dialog box appears, click Run
6. Select the appropriate language and click OK
7. Click Next and select the appropriate Country or Region
8. Click Next and select I accept the terms in the license agreement
9. Click Next and the installation process will begin
10. Click Finish
11. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager by going to Start > Programs > BlackBerry > Desktop Manager
12. Once the Desktop Manager is open, connect your BlackBerry Curve 8330 to your computer using the USB cable and make sure the Desktop Manager shows Connected in the top left
13. If the Application Updates Available window appears, click Update Now and select the check box for BlackBerry Device Software 4.5
14. Click Next
15. On the Device Backup screen, choose whether to automatically back up the data on your BlackBerry 8330 or to Not back up the data
• Note: It is recommended that you back up your data before proceeding
16. Click Next
17. Click Finish to begin loading the BlackBerry Desktop Software to your Curve 8330
• Important Note: Do not unplug the phone while the update is loading
18. Click Close when the software is finished loading
