Find and update the software version on your HTC Snap

Just like your computer, your phone's software needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Follow the steps below to check your current version and perform any needed updates.

Check the version on your phone

To check the version on your HTC Snap:

  1. From the Main screen, select Start
  2. Select Settings > More > More > Device Information > Version
  3. Software Version will be listed in the format X.XX.XXX.X

Update your software

Important Note: Updating your software on your HTC Snap will permanently delete all of your personal information, including settings, files, contacts, calendar, emails, ringtones, pictures/videos and applications. If you have information you want to keep, you need to create a backup copy on your computer before installing the software update.

To back up your email, calendar, contacts and tasks to your computer using ActiveSync:

  1. Connect your HTC Snap to your computer using the supplied USB cable
  2. Open ActiveSync if it does not automatically open
  3. Click Stop to interrupt the automatic sync
  4. In ActiveSync, go to Tools > Options
  5. Select the items you want to sync and click OK to begin sync

To back up your pictures, music, ringtones, games and other files to your computer using ActiveSync:

  1. Create a folder or folders on your computer to store the files in
  2. Connect your HTC Snap to your computer using the supplied USB cable
  3. Open ActiveSync if it does not automatically open
  4. Click Stop to interrupt the automatic sync
  5. In ActiveSync, click on Explore
  6. Open one of the folders where your content is stored on your phone (example: My Ringtones)
  7. Locate the file to back up and drag and drop it from that folder to the one you created on your computer. You may want to take note of where the file was located to help with the restore process.
  8. Continue to locate and drag and drop until you have copied all the files to your computer. Note: Be sure to also check the Windows Mobile Based-Device folder for other files

To install the software update:

Before you run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), make sure you check and do the following first:

  • USB sync cable is connected to the computer
  • The standby and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer
  • All running applications on the computer have been closed
  • USB sync cable is connected to your phone to establish an ActiveSync connection with the computer
  • Do not interact with your phone during the download unless instructed to do so


  1. After you have backed up your information, download the Software Update.
  2. Save the file to your computer desktop
  3. Double click on the file that was saved to your desktop and follow the on-screen prompts to install the ROM Upgrade Utility
  4. On the Welcome Screen, click Next to begin the ROM update installation
  5. On the next screen, follow all of the listed instructions in the dialog box (including connecting your phone to the computer) and then click Next to proceed
  6. You will see the message Verifying the information on your Smartphone… Please wait…
  7. Once the verification process is completed, current information about your HTC Snap, such as the model ID, image version and language will then be displayed; click Update to proceed
  8. Information about the new ROM update will be shown below the device information; if you are ready to install the new ROM update on your HTC Snap, click Next to proceed
  9. A confirmation message will appear and show the length of time it will take to copy the necessary files (including radio image) to the device; click Next to begin the update
  10. You will see a progress bar running on the screen during the update process; Note: In the middle of the update process, the progress bar may stop running. This is normal as the RUU is adjusting itself to complete the update process automatically.
  11. When you see the Congratulations screen, it means update is complete; click Finish to exit the utility
