Find and update the software version on your Motorola Brute i680

Just like your computer, your phone's software needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Follow the steps below to check your current version and perform any needed updates.

Check the version on your phone

To find the software version on your Motorola Brute™ i680:

  1. Press # * Menu and Right Arrow buttons in quick succession
  2. Scroll down to Unit Info and press Option under View or OK
  3. Scroll down to Software and press Option under Select or OK
  4. The software version is listed first and will normally start with the letter R and be in the format Rxx.xx.xx format


Update your software

  1. Confirm that your computer matches the following requirements before selecting the correct utility on the Web site:
    • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
    • If using a USB data cable, your computer operating system should be Windows 98 SE™, 2000™, ME™, XP™ and 7™
    • If using an RS232 data cable, your computer operating system should be Windows 98™, NT 4.0, 2000™, ME™ ,XP™ and 7™
  2. Go to the Motorola Web site and follow the on-screen instructions
  3. Select the utility for your Brute i680
  4. Connect your phone to your computer with a data cable
  5. When the utility starts, follow the onscreen instructions provided
