Find and update the software version on your Palm Pre

Just like your computer, your phone's software needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Palm will send your Palm® Pre™ automated notification that allows you to accept the software installation or delay until later. Follow the steps below to check your current version and perform any needed updates.

This update includes enhancements that allow you to customize alerts, forward SMS & MMS messages, select Google contacts individually, select a wireless network from your phone, retain USB drive data with WebOS Doctor, use key combo (OPT + U + Sym) to access media sync if screen is inaccessible and set the date and time manually. It adds Yahoo Calendar and Contacts to Yahoo! Synergy integration and Data Transfer Assistant 1.3 update.

Note: This update will take approximately 30 minutes if using Wi-Fi and up to a full hour if not using Wi-Fi and opting for EVDO

Check the version on your phone

To find the software version on your Pre:

  1. Open Device Info from the launcher menu
  2. Scroll down to Version & Configuration
  3. Version and Sprint Configuration will be displayed on the screen
  4. Tap Version to see the Build information

Update your software
NOTE:
You will be automatically notified of updates when they are available; however, if you would like to manually check for updates use the method below.

To update your Pre over the air:

  1. Open App Launcher
  2. Tap Updates and the phone will automatically check for updates
  3. If an update is available, tap Download. You can dismiss the app after starting, and the update will download in the background.
  4. After the update is downloaded and validated, you will be prompted to install it. Installation time will vary, and you will not be able to use your device during this time. As the screen warns, it is important that you do not pull the battery out while the device is updating.
  5. After the installation is complete, the device will restart. You should see a confirmation that the update was successful.

NOTE: You will receive a notification when an update is ready to be installed. Upon the initial notification, you will be given the choice to Install Now or Defer.

  • If you choose to install the update, you will receive a notification warning that you will not be able to use your device while the update is taking place.
  • If you chose to defer, the next time you charge your device, you will receive a prompt to Install the update now or Defer. If you do not make a choice, the installation will take place in 10 minutes. You will receive a notification warning that you will not be able to use your device while the update is taking place. You can also defer indefinitely and choose not to receive the update.
