Just like your computer, your phone's software needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Follow the steps below to check your current version and perform any needed updates.

Check the current version on your phone
To check the version on your Samsung Intrepid:

1. From the Main screen, press the Windows key or Start
2. Select Settings and press the center navigation key
3. Select System and press the center navigation key
4. Select Phone Information and press the center navigation key
5. Software version will be listed next to the Eboot Version heading

Update your software

Important Note: Updating your software on your Windows Mobile device will permanently delete all of your personal information, including settings, files, contacts, calendar, emails, ringtones, pictures/videos and applications. If you have information you want to keep, you need to create a backup copy on your computer before installing the software update.

To back up your email, calendar, contacts and tasks to your computer using ActiveSync:

1. Connect your Samsung Intrepid to your computer using the supplied USB cable
2. Open ActiveSync if it does not automatically open
3. Click Stop to interrupt the automatic sync
4. In ActiveSync, go to Tools > Options
5. Select the items you want to sync and click OK to begin sync

To back up your pictures, music, ringtones, games and other files to your computer using ActiveSync:

1. Create a folder or folders on your computer to store the files in
2. Connect your Samsung Intrepid to your computer using the supplied USB cable
3. Open ActiveSync if it does not automatically open
4. Click Stop to interrupt the automatic sync
5. In ActiveSync, click on Explore
6. Open one of the folders where your content is stored on your phone (example: My Ringtones)
7. Locate the file to back up and drag and drop it from that folder to the one you created on your computer. You may want to take note of where the file was located to help with the restore process.
8. Continue to locate and drag and drop until you have copied all the files to your computer. Note: Be sure to also check the Windows Mobile Based-Device folder for other files

To install the software update:

1. After you have backed up your information, go to our download site and find the download file you need
2. Select the software version and click More Details
3. Scroll to the bottom and select Download
4. A pop-up box will ask you to either Run or Save the download; choose Save and save it to your computer desktop
5. Once the download is saved, double-click the file that was saved to your desktop; when the dialog box appears, click Run
6. Accept the license agreement and proceed with installation
7. When prompted, click Yes, I want to restart my computer now
8. Once your computer has restarted, connect your Samsung Intrepid to your computer using the supplied USB cable
9. Double-click the Samsung Intrepid software icon on your computer
10. Read the What You Need to Know message and to begin the software update installation, click Start
11. You will be reminded that all downloaded data and applications will be erased; click Yes to continue
12. The software update installation will begin, and you will see the message Upgrading the software… Note: It is important that you do not disconnect or power off your phone during this process
13. When you see the Upgrade Complete message, click Close to exit and disconnect your phone from your computer
14. Your phone will reboot and you can complete the device set up steps
