Know if you need BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Last Updated: Dec 29, 2010

BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) is used by enterprise, small and medium businesses (SMB), and government companies who have a server-based email environment. It provides push-based wireless sync of email and PIM (i.e., calendar, memopad, tasks and address book) and gives IT administrators the freedom to:

  • Leverage centralized administrative and monitoring tools
  • Manage thousands of BlackBerry devices from one to many servers
  • Allow BlackBerry devices to access back-end databases and customized applications
  • Set company-based user policies across internal and mobile devices
  • Maintain highest level of security for mobile assets

BlackBerry Enterprise Server is designed specifically to work with Microsoft® Exchange, IBM® Lotus® Domino® and Novell® GroupWise® server-based email solutions. Individuals and companies who do not have access to server-based email do not need to have BlackBerry Enterprise Server, as BlackBerry devices support BlackBerry Internet Service for POP3 and IMAP email.

BlackBerry Enterprise Email is set-up and managed by your IT staff. Since each company's policies and procedures can be different, you will need to work directly with their IT administrator to complete the set-up process
