Learn how you will be billed for international data service usage

Last Updated: Jun 11, 2013

Charges will vary depending on the amount of data you send and receive. All data services are billed by the kilobyte when you travel internationally. The current rate for data roaming in GSM network-countries is 1.8 cents per kilobyte.

The number of kilobytes you use will vary depending on the size of message or download. Here are some average file sizes to give you an idea what charges you might incur:

  • Text message - 3KB
  • Multimedia (image) message - 100KB
  • Web browsing - 250 to 500KB per page
