FAQs about your Sprint Prepaid account

What is Sprint Prepaid? How does it work?

With Sprint Prepaid there are no annual contracts, no credit checks, surprises or late fees. There are no compromises with unlimited talk, text and data plan options and the latest technology including 4G LTE and Sprint Spark capable devices. You simply:

  1. Choose a compatible Sprint Prepaid phone.
  2. Select a plan based on your phone and how much you want to use per month.
  3. Activate and prepay each month for your service.

Where can I get device support, user guides, tutorials and more?

You can get device support, user guides, tutorials and more at sprint.com/devicesupport.

How can I activate or add more money to my account?

The easiest way to manage your account is to visit sprint.com/prepaidmysprint any time to activate your device, Reload your account, manage your plan, set up AutoPay options and more. You can also Reload your account any time by going to a Sprint store near you or dialing *3 from your Sprint Prepaid phone. Your first monthly plan payment must be paid in advance of using the phone on the Nationwide Sprint Network.

If your new cash balance is equal to or greater than your next monthly payment amount after you Reload, we will automatically make an Advance Payment towards your next month’s service.

Reload an amount greater than your monthly payment for additional services such as directory assistance, additional minutes on limited minute plans, international calling or texting while on the Nationwide Sprint Network, premium services or content or purchasing a new device.

How do I know which plan to pick?

Sprint Prepaid offers two sets of plans based upon the type of device you have.

Smartphone plans: We offer both the Smartphone Plus and the Smart plan for your smartphone.

  • The Smartphone Plus plan includes Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data for $60/month
  • The Smart plan includes Unlimited Talk and Text. Network Data is not included. However, Wi-Fi access may be available with a compatible device. The Smart plan costs $45/month
  • Smartphone plans can only be paired with a Sprint Prepaid [SPP] smartphone.
  • iPhone only compatible with the Smartphone Plus plan.

Basic Phone plans (Coming Soon): We will soon offer both the Basic Plus and the Basic plans for your basic or feature phone.

  • The Basic Plus plan includes Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data for $50/month
  • The Basic plan includes 500 Anytime voice minutes, Unlimited Talk and Data for $35/month. Additional voice minutes are available at $.10/minute.
  • Basic plans can only be paired with a Sprint Prepaid basic or feature phone.

All Unlimited data plans include 2.5GB/month of high speed 3G/4G data, including 4G LTE speeds in 4G LTE coverage areas for capable devices. You are free to switch between plans each month as long as you stick with the type of plan compatible with your device.

Can I keep my existing number when I switch to Sprint Prepaid?

Yes, “porting-in” means bringing your phone number to a new phone company. Porting-out means taking your phone number from your existing phone company. Wireless Local Number Portability (WLNP) allows you to take your phone number with you when switching phone companies but may not be available from all telecommunications companies.

Once you have your new Sprint Prepaid phone, go to sprint.com/prepaidactivate, click Activate, and select "I want to switch my number from another company to Sprint Prepaid." We'll be able to guide you from there. Please note that if you currently have a different Sprint device (other than Sprint Prepaid), you’ll still need to go through this process to keep your phone number.

To expedite the transfer, we request that you have a current bill from your existing carrier to provide us with your customer information, inaccurate information will delay the process:

  • Phone number
  • Account number from your old provider
  • Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax ID
  • Billing name and address
  • Account password from your old provider (if applicable)

NOTE: We can't switch your area code without giving you a new local number as well. To learn more, visit the FCC's site at http://wireless.fcc.gov/wlnp.

If I already have a Sprint device, can I use it with a Sprint Prepaid plan?

Sprint Prepaid Smartphone and Basic Phone plans are specially designed to work with Sprint Prepaid devices. Sprint Prepaid plans are limited only to approved Sprint Prepaid devices. Visit sprint.com/prepaid to browse Sprint Prepaid devices.

Will my account or phone number be cancelled if I don’t make a monthly payment?

You will have 120 days after your monthly plan expires to add money to your account to prevent cancellation, loss of all funds comprising your cash balance and your telephone number. Lost funds are nonrefundable. If your monthly plan expires and you do not make a monthly payment, you cannot use your phone.

When is my plan payment due?

Recurring monthly plan payments are due on your payment date, which is based on the day when you purchase, restart, switch to or activate your plan. Voice, data and message allotments will be restored when you make a payment.

Where can I buy a Sprint Prepaid phone?

You can purchase a Sprint Prepaid phone from participating Sprint branded retail locations or via the phone at 1-866-866-7509.

Are there international options on Sprint Prepaid?

While on the Nationwide Sprint Network, Sprint Prepaid customers have the option to call or text internationally. Sprint Prepaid’s most current international rates can be found by visiting sprint.com/prepaidinternational and should be checked before placing a call since rates are subject to change. Customers simply Reload an amount greater than their monthly payment in advance of using international services.
