Note: Provided that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply install the software and click Yes when prompted to activate.

Installing the USB modem
To install and run the Sprint Mobile Broadband USB modem and accompanying software, your system requires one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows® XP (Service Pack 2 or later) or Vista
  • Macintosh® OSX 10.4.11 or higher
  • Linux

The minimum hardware requirements are as follows:

  • CPU 300 MHz or faster (800 MHz for Windows Vista)
  • USB port

To install the USB modem, follow these steps:

Note: Installation and activation may require you to be logged in with administrative privileges

  1. Connect the USB modem to the computer's USB port. Windows will detect the device and automatically install the necessary device drivers as well as Sprint SmartView connection software. The LED indicator will light.
    Note: If the Software Installation Wizard has not started automatically, open My Computer and double-click the Tru-Install entry, under My Computer, and run AppLaunch.exe to start the Installation Wizard.
  2. Follow the prompts and accept the terms of the License Agreement to install. After the installation shield is complete click Finish.
  3. Wait to proceed until the system tray displays the message Your devices are ready to use or Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.
  4. The Sprint SmartView icon appears on your desktop. While the device is still inserted into the computer, double-click to open the Sprint SmartView icon on the desktop.

Activating the USB modem

Note: Hands-free activation starts automatically. Provided that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply wait until activation completes and the Connect button appears on Sprint SmartView. If the One Touch Activation dialog box appears, follow the steps below.

To activate the USB modem, perform the following steps:

  1. Double-click the Sprint SmartView icon on your desktop.
  2. In the One Touch Activation dialog box, click Yes to activate. Wait a few moments. During this time, Sprint SmartView may display the message Preparing Services followed by Please wait.
  3. Once the programming is complete, click Connect.

Manual programming

To manually program the USB modem, perform the following steps:

  1. With Sprint SmartView open and active, type ##ATV. The characters you type will not appear on screen.
  2. In the Sprint PCS Activation Wizard dialog box, click Next.
  3. In the Activation Code text box, enter the Activation Code, and then click Next.
  4. In the Phone Number (MDN) text box, enter the MDN assigned to your USB modem.
  5. In the MSID (IMSI_I) text box, enter the MSID.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Confirm the phone number and MSID that you have entered, and then click Yes.
  8. When prompted, click Connect to connect to the Internet.
