Program your BlackBerry 8703e smartphone

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

You can use these programming instructions if you have a new phone or a used phone activated by a previous owner, and you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. If so, you should refer to the page you printed showing the codes you need for these instructions to work.

To program your smartphone:

  1. If your BlackBerry is not turned on, press the Power button located on the top.
  2. Scroll to the Turn Wireless On icon (the antenna icon toward the bottom of the icon display screen). Press the Enter key (the key located on the bottom right corner with an arrow pointing to the left). The icon changes to an antenna emitting radio waves.
  3. Check the various visual indicators (battery, 1x and signal indicators) that are near the date and time display. Because data services are not yet provisioned, you will see a 1x (small x) visual indicator.
  4. Scroll to the Phone Application icon (the telephone handset icon). Press the Enter key to select this option. NOTE: The phone icon displays a menu. To display the dial pad, press any number.
  5. If you have a new phone, press ## followed by the one-time 6-digit code, located in the Programming Instructions section on the Activate your new phone page, and then press the Enter key, or click the trackwheel. Select Call ## xxxxxx and click the trackwheel again. NOTE: The CDMA Service Programming Edit Screen appears, with Mobile Directory # selected. The Mobile Directory # will be defaulted to 000000dddd where dddd is the last 4 digits of your BlackBerry's 16-digit Electronic Serial Number (ESN) converted to decimal value.
  6. If you have a previously activated phone (a phone that is new to you, but not brand new), press ## followed by the secondary 6-digit code, located in the Programming Instructions section on the Activate your new phone page, and then press the Enter key or click the trackwheel.

NOTE: If a wrong number is accidentally pressed, simply delete it by pressing the Delete key (directly above the Enter key).

  7. Erase the default entry of the Mobile Directory # and replace with the 10-digit MDN of the phone number.
    • To do this, use the trackwheel to scroll down to one of the fields below it, and then scroll back up to the end of the Mobile Directory # field.
  8. Use the Delete (DEL) key to erase the default numbers.
  9. Enter the correct 10-digit MDN.
  10. Scroll down to the IMSI_S field and replace the default entry (same process as used in Step 7) with the 10-digit MSID number.
  11. Click the trackwheel and select Save.
  12. Click the trackwheel again to save the new entries.
  13. The phone displays Write Successful. Resetting device. The BlackBerry resets (powers down and then powers back up). The reset takes approximately two to three minutes.
  14. When your BlackBerry powers up, a progress screen, which reads Verifying Security Software appears momentarily and voice programming is complete. The small 1x visual indicator changes to a large 1X. If you are within the EVDO network coverage area, the indicator changes to a large 1XEV.

NOTE: It can take up to four hours to complete the activation process and for your phone to begin working. If the provisioning process does not complete within five hours, contact us.
