Program your BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

You can use these programming instructions if you have a new phone or a used phone activated by a previous owner, and you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. If so, you should refer to the page you printed showing the codes you need for these instructions to work.

To program your phone:

  1. Insert the battery. If your BlackBerry isn't on, press the red End/Power key located on the right side of the front panel.
  2. If you have a new phone, press ## followed by the one-time 6-digit code - press the Enter key or click the trackwheel; select Call ##xxxxxx and click the trackwheel again.
    • The CDMA Service Programming Edit Screen appears, with Mobile Directory Number (MDN) selected. The MDN will be defaulted to 000000dddd (the dddd is the last 4 digits of your BlackBerry's 16-digit Electronic Serial Number (ESN) converted to decimal value).
  3. If you have a previously activated phone, press ## followed by the secondary 6-digit code - press the Enter key or click the trackwheel; select ##xxxxxx and click the trackwheel again.
    • The CDMA Service Programming Edit Screen appears with MDN selected; the MDN will be defaulted to 000000dddd (the dddd is the last 4 digits of your BlackBerry's 16-digit Electronic Serial Number (ESN) converted to decimal value). Press the green Talk key.
  4. Press ## followed by the secondary 6-digit code and press the green Talk key.
  5. The CDMA Service Edit Screen appears with MDN selected. The MDN defaults to 000000dddd - the dddd is the last 4 digits of your BlackBerry's 16-digit Electronic Serial Number (ESN) converted to decimal value.
  6. Use the trackball to scroll to the end of the MDN field. Press the Delete key to erase the default numbers and enter your 10-digit phone number.
  7. Scroll down to the IMSI_S field and replace the default entry, using the same process as used in previous step, with the 10-digit MSID number and select Save.
  8. The phone displays Write Successful. Resetting device, and the phone will restart (the restart takes approximately 2 to 3 minutes).
  9. When the device powers up, a progress screen "Verifying Security Software" appears momentarily and voice programming is complete.
  10. The small 1x visual indicator changes to a large 1X (if within EVDO network coverage the indicator changes to a large 1XEV).

Follow these steps to activate your BlackBerry's Mobile Network capability:

  1. Scroll to Options from the main menu; click the trackball.
  2. Scroll to Mobile Network; click the trackball.
  3. Scroll to Start Provisioning; click the trackball.
  4. Your phone will auto-provision the Mobile Network.
  5. When provision completes, click OK.
    • If an error is displayed, follow the correct troubleshooting steps for that error.

It can take up to 4 hours to complete the activation process and for your phone to work. Contact us if the provisioning process does not complete within 5 hours.
