Hands-free activation (when turning your phone on for the first time)

  1. Turn your phone on by pressing and holding the Power/End button. Verify the screen displays the correct date and time.
  2. Your phone will perform a hands-free activation. This may take a few minutes. The following message appears: Hand Free Activation, Contacting network.
  3. Once complete, the following message displays: Your device has been activated! OK.
  4. To exit setup, press the softkey to select OK. The phone turns off and back on, and then returns to idle screen.
  5. Your phone has been successfully activated and is ready for voice and data use. To confirm the activation, make a phone call.

If you receive the message Your activation could not be completed. Please try again later, do the following:

  1. Press the Menu/OK key to access the main menu, and then select Settings
  2. Select More > Data > Update Data Profile
  3. You will see the following message: The Network is preparing your services, please wait.
  4. Turn the phone off and back on again. To confirm the activation, make a phone call.

Manual Programming Instructions (use only if hands-free activation did not work)

You can use these programming instructions if you have a new phone or a used phone activated by a previous owner, and you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. If so, you should refer to the page you printed showing the codes you need for these instructions to work.

  1. Find the Mobile Equipment Identification Number (MEID) for your phone and make note of the number. You can find it in two places:
    • Underneath the battery in the phone on the right side of the barcode sticker. Turn off the phone and remove the battery to view. After viewing, place the battery back in the phone.
    • The Barcode sticker on the end of the original box labeled DEC-HEX.
  2. Turn the phone on and verify the screen displays the correct date and time.
  3. If you have a new phone that has never been activated:
    • Press ## followed by the 6-digit code, followed by an additional # (Example: ##123456#) Note: The last # entered will not show on the display.
    • The Service Menu screen appears with the View option highlighted
  4. If you have a used phone that has previously been activated:
    • On the dial pad, press ##786 followed by an additional # symbol
    • Select Reset
    • Enter the 6-digit code
    • Select Reset
    • If the message "Reset the phone manufacturer's default?" appears, select Yes
    • Press OK to reset the phone to the manufacturer's default
    • After the reset, press ## followed by the 6-digit code, followed by an additional # symbol (Example: ##123456#) Note: The last # entered will not show on the display.
    • The Service Menu screen appears with the View option highlighted
  5. Scroll to Edit, and press Menu/OK
  6. Enter the 10-digit MDN, and press Menu/OK. Entering your number will clear any numbers currently appearing.
  7. Enter the 10-digit MSID, and press Menu/OK
  8. From the Service Program screen, scroll to Done, and press Menu/OK. The phone will automatically turn off and back on again
  9. To confirm the activation, make a phone call, and confirm that data services are working by launching the Web browser

Note: It can take up to 4 hours to complete the activation process and for your phone to begin working. If the provisioning process does not complete within 5 hours, contact us.
