Do not connect the Sprint Novatel Merlin EX720 Connection Card to the computer until the connection managing software is installed on the computer.
NOTE: This article assumes you have completed the steps in How do I activate my Novatel Wireless Merlin S620, S720 or EX720?
There are three parts to programming the device. Installing the connection software, installing the device drivers, and activating the devices.
Installing the Sprint SmartView software
ALERT: Installation may require you to be logged in with administrative privileges. Do not connect the Sprint Novatel Wireless EX720 connection card to your computer before installing the Sprint Smartview software. Delete or uninstall any previously existing modem or dialer software from the computer
To install the Sprint SmartView software, perform the following steps:
NOTE: For Windows 2000, the computer may need to be manually restarted. From the Start menu, click Shutdown, and then click Restart.
Installing the Novatel Wireless Merlin EX720 connection card drivers
To install the connection card drivers, perform the following steps:
NOTE: Some computers may have full-sized PC card slots and ExpressCard slots. Take special care to insert the Novatel Wireless Merlin EX720 in the ExpressCard slot usually marked with EX or some other identifiable marking. If you are inserting the card into a PC card slot, use the adapter that came with the device for use in a standard PC card slot.
NOTE: The connection card is powered as soon as you insert it into the ExpressCard slot. Windows will detect the new Sprint Connection Card and install the necessary drivers. The Add New Hardware Wizard or Found New Hardware Wizard may launch depending on your operating system. Follow the onscreen prompts to allow the Wizard to install the drivers. When notified that the installation is complete, click OK.
Activating the card automatically
To activate the card automatically, perform the following steps:
NOTE: If you do not activate the device, you will be prompted to activate your device the next time you attempt to connect to Sprint Mobile Broadband. If One-Touch Activation doesn't launch when you try to connect, you can activate your connection card manually.
