Program your Motorola Photon 4G

You can use these programming instructions if you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. Your confirmation email or Programming Instructions page will have any codes you may need for these instructions to work.


Note: If you are programming a phone that was previously activated on our network and used by another customer, please follow the Program a Used Phone steps toward the bottom of the page.



Program a Brand New Phone

  1. Turn on the phone by pressing and holding the Power button on the top right side of the phone
  2. The phone will power up and begin the Hands-Free Activation process
  3. When you see the screen, PRL has been updated. Press OK to continue, tap OK
  4. Your phone will restart
  5. At the Welcome to MB855 screen, tap the green android icon to begin
  6. Next you will walk through completing setup, such as, create or sign-in to a Google Account and set up accounts and social networks
  7. Once set up is complete, you will be returned to the Home screen, and your Motorola PHOTON™ 4G is ready to use to make calls and access data

If your phone did not activate successfully when you turned it on for the first time, complete the following steps:

  1. At the Home screen, select Menu > Settings
  2. Scroll up and select About Phone > System updates
  3. Choose Update Profile and select OK
  4. Phone will restart and then begin the Hands-Free Activation process
  5. When you see the screen, PRL has been updated. Press OK to continue, tap OK
  6. Your phone will restart
  7. At the Welcome to MB855 screen, tap the green android icon to begin
  8. Next you will walk through completing setup, such as, create or sign-in to a Google Account and set up accounts and social networks
  9. Once set up is complete, you will be returned to the Home screen, and your Motorola Photon 4G is ready to use to make calls and access data


Program a Used Phone

Note: Please follow these steps if you are programming a phone that was previously activated on our network and used by another customer and if you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. Refer to your confirmation email or Programming Instructions page for any codes you may need for these instructions to work.


Important Note: These steps will permanently clear out or remove any previous contacts, photos or applications on the phone.

  1. Turn on the phone by pressing and holding the Power button on the top right side of the phone
  2. Unlock the phone and select the Dialer icon, located on the bottom left of the Home screen or in the Application menu
  3. Using the phone dialer touchscreen keypad, enter ##786#
  4. On the Sprint RTN Settings screen, scroll up and tap Reset to factory defaults
  5. At the Security screen, tap on the white box under Enter Passcode and enter the 6-digit code you received in the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint; tap Verify
  6. On the WARNING screen, tap OK
  7. Phone will restart and then begin the Hands-Free Activation process
  8. When you see the screen, PRL has been updated. Press OK to continue, tap OK
  9. Your phone will restart
  10. At the Welcome to MB855 screen, tap the green android icon to begin
  11. Next you will walk through completing setup, such as, create or sign-in to a Google Account and set up accounts and social networks
  12. Once set up is complete, you will be returned to the Home screen, and your Motorola Photon 4G is ready to use to make calls and access data


If all other programming methods have failed and if you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint, you can follow these steps to manually program the phone. Refer to your confirmation email or Programming Instructions page for any codes you may need for these instructions to work.

  1. On the phone dial pad, press ## followed by the 6-digit code you received in the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint, followed by an additional #. Example: ##123456#
  2. On the Service Programming screen, tap Menu then Edit
  3. Tap on the white box under MIN
  4. Clear out the previous programming information by tapping and holding the white box again; at the Edit text screen, tap Select all to highlight the previous information
  5. Using the touchscreen keypad, enter MIN
  6. Tap and hold on the MDN box
  7. At the Edit text screen, tap Select all to highlight the previous information
  8. Enter the MDN
  9. Tap Done
  10. Phone will restart; if it does not do this automatically, manually turn the phone off and back on by pressing the Power button
  11. Once you are returned to the Home screen, make a call and access data to ensure your Photon 4G programmed successfully. If you are unable to call or access data, contact us.
