Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

NOTE: Providing that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply install the software and click Yes to activate when prompted.

To install and run the Sprint Mobile Broadband USB modem and accompanying software, your system requires the following

  • Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later) or Vista
  • CPU 300 MHz or faster (800 MHz for Windows Vista)
  • USB port

To program the device, perform the following steps:

NOTE: Necessary software and drivers are automatically installed upon inserting the device into the computer. Installation/Activation may require you to be logged in with administrative privileges.

  1. Connect the Novatel Wireless Ovation U760 to the USB port on the computer. Windows will detect the device and automatically install the necessary device drivers as well as the Sprint SmartView connection software.
  2. Follow the prompts to accept the terms of the License Agreement. Click Agree >Continue > Finish.
  3. Wait to proceed until the system tray displays Your devices are ready to use or Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.
  4. Double-click the newly-added Sprint SmartView icon on the desktop. Automatic Activation launches and a window appears explaining that the device is not currently activated.
  5. HFA (Hands-Free Activation) starts automatically. Providing that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply wait until HFA completes and the Connect button appears on Sprint SmartView. The connection card should be ready for use by clicking Connect.
  6. If One-Touch Activation launches and a window appears explaining that the device is not currently activated, click Yes to activate.
  7. After selecting Yes, wait a few moments. During this time, Sprint SmartView may display Preparing Service, followed by Please wait.
  8. Once the activation process is complete, Sprint Mobile Broadband displays Connect, the default ready-to-connect state. If Connect to Sprint Mobile Broadband Now appears, click Yes. Programming is complete.
  9. After provisioning is complete, the connection card should be ready for use. To connect, click Connect.

Manual Programming

If One-Touch Activation is unsuccessful, you can program the device manually.

To program the device manually, perform the following steps:

  1. Double-click the Sprint SmartView icon to open Sprint SmartView. Once open, ensure that it is at the forefront by mousing over and clicking on it.
  2. Type ##ATV on the keyboard. You will not see the characters as they are being keyed in.
  3. The Activation Wizard appears. Click Next.
  4. Enter the Activation Code into the Activation Code text box and click Next.
  5. Enter the phone number (MDN) into the Phone number (MDN) text box.
  6. Enter the MSID number into the MSID (IMSI_I) text box.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Reconfirm the phone number (MDN) and MSID and then click Yes.
  9. After provisioning is complete, the connection card should be ready for use. To connect, click Connect.
