Program your Palm Pre

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

NOTE: To complete the steps in this article, your Palm Pre must be activated.

Locating the ESN/MEID

The MEID can be found in three places:

  • It's on the barcode sticker on the end of the original box, labeled MEID.
  • It can be found underneath the battery in the phone on the right side of the barcode sticker. Turn off the phone and remove the battery to view. This method is not recommended.
  • It is also displayed at the Activation Error screen.

Hands-Free Activation

To use Hands-Free Activation, perform the following steps:

  1. If it's not already on, turn on your phone.
  2. Check for the EV indicator in the upper-right corner by the signal and battery power indicators.
  3. Touch Try Again if it appears on the screen.
  4. Touch the appropriate language selection, and then confirm the language selection.
  5. The device will complete Hands-Free Activation. Touch Next.

NOTE: The phone will take you through the remainder of the steps for setting up the phone. When the setup is complete, you should make a test call to ensure that activation was successful.

Resetting the phone

If Hands-Free Activation fails, you will need to reset the phone and Hands-Free Activation will begin again. The steps below should be used if any of the following conditions occur:

  • The EV icon is not displayed during activation.
  • The phone powered up to USB screen.
  • The phone is stuck at Palm logo during start up.
  • The keys do not respond during first use.

To reset the phone, perform the following steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power key while toggling the Ringer Switch back and forth 3 times. The phone will reboot and Hands-Free Activation will be attempted again. If the phone still doesn't activate, continue with the rest of the steps.
  2. Slide open the keyboard, press and hold the orange key, enter ##. The pound (#) symbol can be found on the B key. The dial pad will appear and you can release the orange key.
  3. On the dial pad, touch 786#.
  4. From the bottom of the screen, flick upward to scroll down to RESET.
  5. Touch RESET and open the slider to enter the code using the keypad. You do not need to use NUM LOCK.
  6. Touch OK. Do not interrupt the reset. The device will show a slight pulsing of the Palm logo. When the phone has fully reset, Hands-Free Activation will begin again.
