Last Updated: Nov 15, 2013

Steps to activate your Samsung Epic 4G
  • Hands free activation

If this is the first time activating your device, hands free activation automatically starts when you power it on for the first time.

    1. With your device powered off, press and hold the Power key until the screen turns on.
    2. Your device automatically enters hands free activation mode.
    3. Tap OK.
    4. Your device automatically installs available PRL updates.
    5. Tap OK.
    6. Your device automatically checks for available firmware updates.
    7. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it. Otherwise, tap OK.
    8. You've now completed hands free activation.

Note: If hands free activation fails, continue to the next guide.

  • One touch programming

If this is not the first time activating your device, or hands free activation did not complete successfully, use one touch programming.

    1. From the home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to and tap About phone.
    4. Tap System updates.
    5. Tap Update Profile.
    6. After the update is complete, tap OK.
    7. Tap the Home key.
    8. You've now completed one touch programming.

Note: If one touch programming fails, continue to the next guide.

  • Manual programming

Only use manual programming if both hands free activation and one touch programming did not complete successfully on your Samsung Epic™ 4G.

Manually programming your device requires a 6-digit programming code and a 10-digit MSID. If your device was activated via www.sprint.com/activate, these codes may be found in the phone activation confirmation email or on the programming instructions page displayed after the activation was processed.

If this is a new line of service or you don't have these codes, make an appointment at a nearby Sprint Store for assistance getting your device programmed.

    1. From the home screen, tap Phone.
    2. Dial ## followed by the 6-digit programming code followed by #. For example, ##123456#.
    3. Tap Edit.
    4. Tap Touch Here.
    5. Enter the 10-digit phone number (MDN).
    6. Tap the Enter key.
    7. Tap Touch Here.
    8. Enter the 10-digit MSID.
    9. Tap the Enter key.
    10. Tap Done.
    11. Your device restarts.
    12. After it restarts, from the home screen, tap the Menu key.
    13. Tap Settings.
    14. Scroll to and tap About phone.
    15. Tap System updates.
    16. Tap Update Profile.
    17. After the update is complete, tap OK.
    18. You've now completed manual programming.
