Program your Samsung Instinct s30

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

You can use these programming instructions if you have a new phone or a used phone activated by a previous owner, and you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. If so, you should refer to the page you printed showing the codes you need for these instructions to work.

Note: The Instinct s30 features Visual Voicemail. You will no longer have access to any non-Visual Voicemail messages after you switch over to your new device. You should listen to any messages you may have prior to swapping your device.

Note: The Instinct s30 is designed to program itself automatically when it is first turned on. When programming is complete, you can make a phone call to confirm that it was successful.

To program your phone:

Locate the ESN/MEID. The electronic serial number (ESN) or mobile equipment identifier (MEID) can be found in two places:

  1. It can be found underneath the battery in the phone on the barcode sticker. Turn off the phone and remove the battery to view.
  2. It also can be found on the barcode sticker on the end of the original box labeled DEC-HEX. Only use this number if you are unable to find the ESN/MEID on the phone, as the box and phone do not always match.

Programming your device automatically

To program your device automatically, perform the following steps:

  1. If you haven't already, turn on your device. You will see the message Hands Free Activation, Contacting network. When activation is complete, you will see the message Your device has been activated.
  2. Press the left softkey to select OK. The phone is now ready for use to make voice and data calls.
  3. To ensure that programming was successful, make a phone call.

One-Touch Programming

If automatic programming fails, you may need to update your profile.

To update your profile, perform the following steps:

  1. Select Main > Settings > General > Update Data Profile.

Note: Your device will display the message Preparing Data Services, Please wait for about two minutes. When your profile has been updated and the device has been programmed, you will see the message Your device has been activated. If you see the message Update Profile Unsuccessful, proceed to Manual Programming.

  2. Press the left softkey to select OK.
  3. If the device did not turn off and back on again during this process, you will need to turn if off and back on again yourself.
  4. To confirm that voice and data services are working, make a phone call and open the Web browser.

Manual programming

To manually program your device, perform the following steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key on the top of the device to turn the phone on.
  2. Verify that the screen shows correct date and time.
  3. Press the Phone Functions key on the front of the device in the lower-right corner. The Speed Dial will appear.
  4. Touch the Dialer icon. The on-screen dial pad will appear.
  5. Press ## followed by the 6-digit One-Time Keypad Subsidy Lock (OTKSL) code followed by an additional ##. (Example: ##123456#. The last # entered will not show on the display.)
  6. Touch Edit. The Phone Number (MDN) screen appears.
  7. Enter your 10-digit Phone Number (MDN).
  8. Touch Done. The Enter MSID screen appears. Enter your 10-digit MSID. Note: If there are already numbers entered, they will be cleared when you enter your number.
  9. Touch Done. The phone will power cycle and programming will be completed.
