Program your Samsung Moment

Last Updated: Nov 19, 2013

The Samsung Moment™ with Google™ is designed to program itself automatically when it is first turned on. You can confirm that the programming has completed successfully by making a phone call from your phone. Entering the correct Mobile Directory Number (MDN) and Mobile Station Identification Number (MSID) entry is crucial to allow for correct network authentication.

One-Touch Programming
If your phone did not activate successfully when you turned it on for the first time, complete the following steps:

  1. Turn your phone on by pressing and holding the Power button located at the bottom right of the phone
  2. From the Home screen, press Menu, and then tap Settings

  3. Flick up and tap About phone

  4. Tap System Updates, and then tap Update Profile

  5. You will see the message, We are preparing your data service… Please wait…

Important: Don't interrupt this process or press any keys while the programming is in process. If the screen goes into sleep mode, you can tap the screen to wake up the phone.

  6. Once activation is complete, the phone will return to the Settings tab. Press Home, and then press the Phone key to make a call.
  7. Confirm that data services are working by launching the Web browser
  8. If the phone is still not working, continue with the Manual Programming Steps

Manual Programming Steps

You can use these programming instructions if you have a new phone or a used phone activated by a previous owner, and you have completed the Activate your new phone process in My Sprint. Please refer to the page you printed showing the codes you need for these instructions to work.

  1. Find the ESN on your phone. The ESN can be found in two places:
    • Barcode sticker on the end of the original box (labeled ESN-DEC)
    • Barcode sticker under the battery

NOTE: If you have already completed the Activate your new phone process, continue with Step 2.

  2. Turn your phone on by pressing and holding the Power button located at the bottom right of the phone. NOTE: The first time your device turns on, it automatically begins the initialization and calibration process.
  3. From the Home screen, tap Dialer, or press the left Phone key and tap Dialer to bring up the dial pad.

  4. If you have a new phone that has never been activated:
    • On the Dial pad, press ## followed by the 6-digit Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) code, followed by an additional #, and then tap the left arrow. Example: ##123456# (The last # entered will not show on the display.)

Important: Handle the MSL with extreme caution.

    • The Service Menu screen will be displayed, highlighted on View.
  5. If you have a previously activated phone, a phone that is new to you but not brand new, use the following the instructions:
    • On the Dial pad, press ##786 followed by an additional #, and then tap the left arrow
    • Press Menu, and tap Reset
    • Enter the 6-digit Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) code
    • Select Reset
    • If the message Reset the phone manufacturer's default? appears, select Yes
    • Press OK to reset the phone to the manufacturer's default
    • After the reset, press ## followed by the 6-digit Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) code, followed by an additional #. Example: ##123456# (The last # entered will not show on the display.)
    • The Service Menu screen will be displayed, highlighted on View
  6. Tap Edit, and then tap Touch Here

  7. Using the keyboard, type the 10-digit Phone Number (MDN), and then tap Return

  8. Type the 10-digit MSID, and then tap Return

  9. On the Service Menu screen, tap Done. The phone will automatically turn off and then turn back on again.

  10. To confirm the activation, make a phone call. Confirm that data services are working by launching the Web browser.

NOTE: It can take up to 4 hours to complete the activation process and for your phone to begin working. If the provisioning process does not complete within 5 hours, contact us.
