Program your Sprint 3G/4G USB Modem U300

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2013

Note: Providing that the data plan subscription and electronic serial number (ESN) have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply install the software and insert the USB Modem. The device will enter Hands-Free Activation and automatically program itself.

We recommend you have the following software on your computer to program your device:

  • Windows® XP (Service Pack 2 or later) or Vista -- OR -- Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4 or later)
  • CPU 300 MHz or faster (800 MHz for Windows Vista)
  • USB port

Installing and activating

Note: Installation and activation may require you to be logged in with administrative privileges.

To install your device software:

  1. Make note of your ESN, usually printed on the underside of the device.
  2. Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. The CD should launch automatically. Click Setup to continue. Note: If autoplay is disabled, navigate to the CD-ROM drive in Windows Explorer and click setup.exe.
  3. Click Next in the installation window labeled Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Sprint SmartView.
  4. Accept the License Agreement and click Next.
  5. Select a skin, either New or Classic, and click Next. Note: To change the skin later, go to Tools and click Load Skin.
  6. In the Destination Folder window, click Next and then click Install to begin installation.
  7. When the InstallShield Wizard Completed window appears, click Finish. A computer restart prompt will appear, click Yes.
  8. Connect the USB modem to the USB port on your computer. Windows will detect the device and automatically install the necessary device drivers. The LED indicator will light on the USB device.
  9. Wait to proceed until the system tray displays Your devices are ready to use or Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.
  10. While the device is still inserted into the computer, double-click to open the Sprint SmartView icon that was installed on the desktop.
  11. Sprint SmartView will display three messages: No Device Detected, followed by Broadband Adapter disabled, Initializing Please Wait, and then Hands-Free Activation Started.
  12. Providing that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, Hands-Free Activation will complete and you will automatically connect and be welcomed to the Sprint 3G network. Note: If the connection to the network is not automatic, you can click Connect or the Mobile [Broadband] button, depending on the software skin chosen during installation, to connect to the Sprint 3G network.
  13. Ensure Sprint SmartView is up to date with all of the latest enhancements. To do so, while connected to the Sprint Network, go to the Sprint SmartView menu, click Tools, and then click Check for application updates now and accept/install updates.

Manual programming

If One-Touch Activation is unsuccessful, you will need to perform the programming manually.

To program the device manually, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Sprint SmartView icon to launch the application. Enter ##ATV# on the keyboard. You will not see the ##ATV# characters as you enter them.
  2. The Activation Wizard appears. Click Next.
  3. Enter your secondary 6-digit code into the Activation Code text box and click Next.
  4. In the Phone number (MDN) text box, enter the phone number (MDN).
  5. In the MSID (IMSI_I) text box, enter the MSID.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Reconfirm the phone number (MDN) and MSID and then click Yes.
  8. Programming (OMA) will begin. After programming is complete, the connection card should be ready for use. To use the card, click Connect.
  9. Ensure Sprint SmartView is up to date with all of the latest enhancements. To do so, while connected to the Sprint Network, go to the Sprint SmartView menu, click Tools, and then click Check for application updates now and accept/install updates.
