Program your Sprint 3G/4G USB U600 for Mac

Last Updated: Nov 16, 2013

To install and run your Sprint 3G/4G USB U600 and accompanying software, your system requires:

  • Mac OS X version 10.5 or higher with an Intel processor
  • The Mac OS version number can checked by clicking on the Apple on the top, right-hand corner of the desktop and selecting About This Mac

Hands-Free Programming

As long as your data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, you can simply follow these instructions to install the software and click Yes when prompted to activate.

Note: Installation and activation may require you to be logged in with administrative privileges.

  1. Insert the Sprint SmartView CD into your Mac
  2. If a window appears with the installation file Sprint SmartView Installer.mpkg, double-click on the file to start the install
  3. When the Set Up dialog box appears, click Continue
  4. Follow the prompts, click Agree to accept the terms of the License Agreement and then click Continue
  5. Click Install
  6. If Admin protection is enabled on your Mac, you will be prompted to enter your Admin password
  7. A computer reboot will be required after the installation is complete
  8. Click Continue Installation
  9. After the installation is complete, a Sprint SmartView icon will appear on the desktop, and you will be prompted to Restart your Mac
  10. After Restart, connect your U600 directly in a Mac USB port; do not plug the USB Modem into a USB hub
  11. Your Mac will detect the USB Modem and automatically install the drivers; wait a minute for this to complete
  12. Double-click to open the Sprint SmartView icon that was installed on the desktop
  13. Sprint SmartView will display the following:
    • Initializing Please Wait
    • Hands Free Activation Started. Please Wait…
    • Device is Restarting
    • No Devices Available
    • Searching for Networks
    • Mobile Radio Off
    • Ready: Sprint 3G
  14. Hands-Free Activation will complete, and you will automatically connect and be welcomed to the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network
  15. In Sprint SmartView, you can click the Switch to 4G button to disconnect from the 3G network and search for the 4G network (and vice versa to reconnect to 3G)
  16. After clicking Switch to 4G, if you are in 4G coverage, Sprint SmartView will display Searching for Networks, followed by Ready: Sprint 4G and you can click Connect

Note: Make sure Sprint SmartView is up-to-date with all of the latest enhancements:

  1. While connected to the Sprint Network, go to the Sprint SmartView menu, located in the top, left corner of your desktop window when focus is on Sprint SmartView (by clicking on SmartView)
  2. Click Tools > Check for application updates now
  3. Accept and install updates

Manual Programming

If the steps above are unsuccessful, follow these steps:

  1. Open Sprint SmartView and make sure it is at the forefront by mousing over it and clicking on it; also make sure Sprint SmartView is scanning for Sprint 3G, not 4G. If necessary, click Switch to 3G if it is currently displaying Switch to 3G.
  2. Type ##MSL# on the keyboard; the characters you type will not display on the screen
  3. The Activation Wizard will appear; click Next
  4. Enter MSL into Activation Code field, then click Next
  5. Enter Phone Number (MDN) into Phone number (MDN) field
  6. Enter MSID into MSID (IMSI_I) field
  7. Verify your Phone Number and MSID are correct and click Next
  8. Click Yes
  9. Programming will begin
  10. After programming is complete, your U600 should be ready for use by clicking Connect
