Program your U301 USB Device Sprint 3G/4G Mobile Broadband for Mac

Last Updated: Nov 19, 2013

Note: Providing that the data plan subscription and electronic serial number (ESN) have been established in the Sprint billing system, the device will activate automatically when the device is inserted into the computer and Sprint SmartViewSM is installed.

System Requirements

To install and run the U301 and accompanying software, your system requires the Mac OS X version 10.5 or higher with an Intel processor. You can verify the Mac OS version number by clicking the Apple in the top right corner of the desktop and selecting About This Mac.

Installing and Activating

Note: Installation and activation may require users to be logged in with administrative privileges.

To install the device:

  1. Make note of your ESN, usually printed on the underside of the device
  2. Insert the Sprint SmartView CD into the computer. A window may appear with the installation file Sprint SmartView Installer.mpkg. Double-click the file to start the installation.
  3. In the Set Up dialog box, click Continue
  4. Follow the prompts and accept the terms of the License Agreement to install by clicking Agree, and then clicking Continue
  5. Click Install to begin the installation, and then click Continue Installation
  6. When installation is completed, you will be prompted to restart your computer
  7. After the computer restarts, connect the USB Modem to the computer's USB port and not into a USB hub. Your computer will detect the device and automatically install the drivers; wait for this to complete
  8. On the desktop, double-click the Sprint SmartView icon; a series of messages will display ending with Ready: Sprint 3G
  9. Providing that the data plan subscription and ESN have been established in the Sprint billing system, Hands-Free Activation will complete and you will automatically connect and be welcomed to the Sprint 3G network
  10. To disconnect from the 3G network and search for the 4G network (and vice versa to reconnect to 3G), click Switch to 4G
  11. If you are in 4G coverage, Sprint SmartView will display Searching for Networks, followed by Ready: Sprint 4G; click Connect
  12. Ensure Sprint SmartView is up to date with all of the latest enhancements. While connected to the Sprint Network, go to the Sprint SmartView menu (located in the top left corner), click Tools > Check for application updates now. Accept and install any updates.

Manual Programming

If Hands-Free Activation is unsuccessful, you will need to perform the programming manually:

  1. On the desktop, double-click the Sprint SmartView icon
  2. Type ##ATV# on the keyboard (you will not see the ##ATV# characters as you enter them) Important: Ensure Sprint SmartView is scanning for Sprint 3G, not 4G; if necessary, click Switch to 3G
  3. When the Activation Wizard appears, click Next
  4. Enter the 6-digit code into the Activation Code field, and click Next
  5. In the Phone Number (MDN) field, type your phone number
  6. In the MSID (IMSI_I) field, type the MSID, and click Next
  7. Reconfirm the Phone Number (MDN) and MSID, and click Yes; programming will begin
  8. After programming is complete, the connection card should be ready for use by clicking Connect
  9. Ensure Sprint SmartView is up to date with all of the latest enhancements. While connected to the Sprint Network, go to the Sprint SmartView menu (located in the top left corner), click Tools > Check for application updates now. Accept and install any updates.
