Send a text message on your BlackBerry Bold 9650 smartphone while traveling internationally

Last Updated: Nov 19, 2013

Before you travel, you will need to enable your phone to send text messages while roaming internationally on GSM networks. To do this, contact Sprint Worldwide Care using chat at www.sprint.com/international (click Chat with us).

Once you complete the steps to enable the device for sending text messages on international GSM networks, you will be able to send text messages on any available network while traveling internationally. You only need to complete this process once.

Note: International text messaging is charged at $0.20/message.

Text messages can only be sent to international carriers supported by Sprint. For a list of supported carriers, go to www.sprint.com/international, select International Texting from the U.S., and then select the link international carriers.

The steps for sending a text message while traveling internationally are identical to sending a text from home.

  • To send a text to a U.S.-based number or to any number within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP)* simply enter the 10-digit number
  • To send a text to a non-US or non-NANP*-based number, enter 011 then the country code and number. Note: Text messaging does not support + key dialing. Contact numbers stored in your address book with a + must be deleted prior to sending a text message to that contact.

*North American Numbering Plan (NANP) Countries: Anguilla, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and U.S. Territories (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam)
