Troubleshoot common issues on your Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012)

Last Updated: Nov 16, 2010

Performing the following steps can help you resolve some of the more common issues that you may experience with your Dell™ Inspiron™ Mini 10 (1012).

  • Check and update Sprint SmartView software
  • Update the device data profile
  • Check signal strength
  • Verify possible application conflicts
  • Reset your connection

Find and update your Sprint SmartView software

Your Dell Netbook needs to be updated periodically to make sure you have all the latest fixes and enhancements to keep it running at optimal performance. Check your current version and perform any needed software updates.

Update the device data profile

This will initiate a service update to re-provision your Dell Netbook. To do this, in Sprint SmartView, go to Tools and select Update data profile.

Ensure signal strength is sufficient

If low signal strength is displayed in the Sprint SmartView window, move to a location with better coverage. For a map of coverage in your area, use an alternate Internet connection and go to the Sprint Coverage Tool at www.sprint.com/coverage, enter your ZIP code and click Go.

If you are having issues connecting to 4G in a building or home, keep in mind 4G devices get the best service near an exterior wall or window. To potentially resolve in-building coverage issues, you may have to use the device in other locations within the building to see if your coverage or signal improves.

Check for conflicting applications

Try to disable any applications that may be restricting your access to the Internet, such as Windows Firewall or Anti-Virus software. If the problem is resolved by this action, contact the software manufacturer for assistance configuring the software to allow for the desired connection.

Reset your connection

Sprint SmartView software may show you are connected, but you may not able to browse, because there is no connection. This issue should only happen when you are located in fringe coverage of the Sprint 4G network. To fix this, just reset your connection by disconnecting and reconnecting to Sprint SmartView.
