Troubleshoot issues related to low internal memory on your HTC EVO 3D

Last Updated: Jan 02, 2013

This article provides troubleshooting tips for the HTC EVO 3D. It contains troubleshooting steps and advice to help resolve issues that may occur when internal memory is low.

The symptoms you may experience if you are having this problem include:
  • Error messages that say Error: Low memory
  • Unable to install applications
  • The device freezes or becomes unresponsive

Low memory issues arise when there are too many applications on your HTC EVO 3D or when too much application cache has accumulated. The following steps explain how to conserve your HTC EVO 3D internal memory. After completing each step, test to see if the problem still occurs. If so, proceed to the following step.

  1. Verify memory usage using Sprint Zone.

The Sprint Zone application can aid in identifying the cause of low memory issues. Follow these instructions to access Sprint Zone and browse to Help > I Need Help > More Diagnostics. Scroll down to Other Diagnostics to view information on Memory and Internal Device Storage. Tap Memory to view applications and processes that are currently consuming system memory and storage will be listed. Close the applications as desired, and if there are applications listed that are no longer used, follow the step below to uninstall them.

  2. Uninstall unused applications.

It is recommended that you uninstall unused applications when possible. Doing so will help free up internal memory, which can consequently improve device performance. To uninstall an application, follow these instructions.

Note: Some applications come pre-installed on your HTC EVO 3D and cannot be uninstalled.

  3. Move applications to the memory card.

By default, all applications are saved to your HTC EVO 3D internal memory. To conserve internal memory, move applications to the memory card.

Note: When moving applications to the memory card, ensure that the card has sufficient memory available. If not, a memory card with a higher capacity may be necessary.

When an application is moved to the memory card, the internal memory it was using before becomes available. To move an application to the memory card, follow these instructions.

Note: Not all applications can be moved to the memory card and some applications may not function as expected if moved to the memory card. If an application malfunctions after it is moved to the memory card, follow these instructions to move it back to your HTC EVO 3D internal memory.

  4. Clear application cache.

Clearing application cache will remove any unnecessary application files, freeing up memory. Not all applications will allow for the cache to be cleared and, on rare occasions, the application may not function as expected when the application cache is cleared. Note that application cache and application data are different. Clearing application data will remove personal settings and info from the application such as login information, high scores, etc. Clearing application cache will not affect your personal settings or information. To clear the application cache, follow these instructions.

  5. Perform a soft reset.
A soft reset will delete any temporary files and can potentially free up internal memory. To perform a soft reset, turn your HTC EVO 3D off and remove the battery. After 30 seconds, reinsert the battery and turn your HTC EVO 3D back on.

Note: To optimize device performance, ensure your HTC EVO 3D is running the most recent device software. To check for software updates, follow these instructions.
