Troubleshoot issues related to multimedia messages (MMS) on your Apple iPhone 5c

Last Updated: Mar 13, 2015

This article helps troubleshoot sending or receiving multimedia messages.

You may have this issue if your device is unable to:

  • Send or receive multimedia messages (messages with pictures, video or audio)

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If not, continue to the next step.

  1. Verify that mobile data is enabled.

    1. From the home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Cellular.
    3. Next to Cellular Data, tap the toggle switch to enable mobile data.
  2. Verify your Apple iPhone 5c is connected to the Sprint network using Safari.

Some features and applications require a data connection to work properly.

    1. From the home screen, tap Safari.
    2. Try to browse to a web page.
    3. If the data connection fails, update the profile.
    4. Test your device to see if the issue is resolved.
  3. Do you see an error message that says the media file is too large?

Try reducing the size of the file with a compatible editing program available in Apple App Store. You can also try to send the file via email. Email providers usually have a higher file size limit.

  4. Perform a soft reset.

A soft reset restarts your phone and does not erase any of your content or data.

    1. Press and hold the Power key and Home key.
    2. Release both keys when the screen goes black.
    3. Then press and hold the Power key until your Apple iPhone 5c restarts.
    4. Test your device to see if the issue is resolved.

Note: To optimize device performance, be sure your Apple iPhone 5c is running the most recent device software. Check for software updates.
