Troubleshoot shortened battery life on your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

This article helps you troubleshoot battery life issues on your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE.

You may have battery issues if:

  • Your Motorola Photon™ Q 4G LTE consistently displays a low charge
  • The battery drains quickly

Try each of these steps to see if it helps your charge last longer.

  1. In Sprint Zone browse Power Usage to learn how your current power settings affect battery life.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
      • Overview: Displays your current power usage level and power mode.
      • Power Usage Details: Shows your power usage over time and which features use your battery the most.
        • Battery Usage: Shows battery history and the power usage of each app.
        • Current Power Settings: Shows settings that can affect battery life. Tap an item to change the setting.
        • Select Power Mode: Helps change settings to extend battery life.
      • Learn More: Provides more information on battery life.
  2. Change the power settings to Low Power.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
    4. Tap Select Power Mode.
    5. Tap Apply.

      Note: If GPS is enabled, GPS must be disabled manually. On the Select Power Mode prompt, tap Settings, tap the Location switch to OFF and tap the Back key to return to Sprint Zone.

  3. Close or uninstall applications to improve battery life.

    • Some apps run in the background when you are not using them.
    • Also, some apps consume more energy than others.
    • Some apps come pre-loaded on your phone and you can't uninstall them.

    1. From Device Diagnostics, tap Power Usage.
    2. Tap Battery Usage.
    3. Tap the application you want to close or uninstall.
      • Close (turn off) an application: Tap Force stop.
      • Uninstall (remove from phone) an application: Tap App info, Uninstall, and then OK.
  4. Verify that your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE is running the most recent software.

    1. From Device Diagnostics, tap System Updates.
    2. Tap Device Software.
    3. Tap Check now.
      • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install.
  5. Safely remove your SD card.

    1. From the home screen, tap the All apps icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Tap Storage.
    4. Scroll to and tap Unmount SD card.
    5. Tap OK.
    6. Remove the SD card
  6. Perform a soft reset. 

    A soft reset restarts your phone and does not erase any of your content or data.

    1. Press and hold the Power key and the Volume Down key for 5 seconds to turn off your Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE.
    2. Release the keys, the phone will automatically restart.
    3. Test your device to see if the issue is resolved.
  7. Verify that your charger is working.

    Note: You risk severe damage to your phone if the charger isn't the same voltage, amps, and plug type as your original charger. You can purchase compatible chargers on sprint.com and at any Sprint Store.

    1. Connect your phone to your charger.
    2. From within Sprint Zone, swipe to the  left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
    4. Tap Battery Usage.
