Last Updated: Nov 18, 2014

This article helps you troubleshoot battery life issues on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

You may have battery issues if:

  • Your Samsung Galaxy Note® 3 consistently displays a low charge
  • The battery drains quickly

Try each of these steps to see if it helps your charge last longer.

  1. In Sprint Zone browse the Power Usage Dashboard to learn how your current power settings affect battery life.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Swipe from Right to Left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
      • Overview: Displays your current power usage level and power mode.
      • Power Usage Details: Shows your power usage over time and which features use your battery the most.
        • Battery Usage: Shows battery history and the power usage of each app.
        • Current Power Settings: Shows settings that can affect battery life. Tap an item to change the setting.
        • Select Power Mode: Helps change settings to extend battery life.
      • Learn More: Provides more information on battery life.
  2. Change the power settings to Low Power.

    1. From within Sprint Zone, swipe from Right to Left to open Device Diagnostics.
    2. Tap Power Usage.
    3. Tap Select Power Mode.
    4. Tap Apply.

Note: If GPS is enabled, GPS must be disabled manually. On the Select Power Mode prompt, tap Settings, tap the Location switch to OFF and tap the Back key to return to Sprint Zone.

  3. Verify that your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is running the most recent software.

    1. From Device Diagnostics, tap System Updates.
    2. Tap Device Software.
    3. Tap Check now.
      • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install.
  4. Safely remove your SD card.

    1. From the home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. From the General tab, scroll to and tap Storage.
    4. Scroll to and tap Unmount SD card.
    5. Tap OK.
    6. Remove the SD card.
  5. Perform a soft reset.

A soft reset restarts your phone and does not erase any of your content or data.

    1. Turn your phone off.
    2. Remove the battery. After 30 seconds, reinsert the battery.
    3. Turn your phone back on.
  6. Verify that your charger is working.

Note: You risk severe damage to your phone if the charger isn't the same voltage, amps, and plug type as your original charger. You can purchase compatible chargers on sprint.com and at any Sprint Store.

    1. Connect your phone to your charger.
    2. From within Sprint Zone, swipe from Right to Left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
    4. Tap Battery Usage.
      • If the Battery Status is not Charging, troubleshoot charging issues.
