Why does Sprint Family Locator give me an incorrect address?

In some Cases, Sprint Family Locator may show an incorrect address.

Sprint Family Locator presents a device's location as a circle. The device is located within that circle. This does not mean that the device is located at the center point. The circle represents the area in which the device is located.

Conditions may result in different accuracy on different occasions. Generally, when locating phones, Sprint Family Locator will produce location accuracies anywhere between a few yards and over a mile. Sometimes poor geographic conditions and limitations of specific phone models can result in less accurate locations.

Common conditions that yield poor location accuracies include:

  • The device's GPS is turned off.
  • Another application on the device is utilizing the GPS (e.g. Navigation).
  • The device is inside a building or car.
  • The device is surrounded by tall buildings, hills, canyons, or trees.
  • The device is near large reflective surfaces (e.g. lakes, ponds, etc.).
