Recover contacts on your Samsung Galaxy S III

Steps to recover your saved contacts

Note: You can recover your contacts only if you've previously backed them up.

  • Display options

    Be sure all of your contacts are visible.

    1. From the home screen, tap Contacts.
    2. From the Contacts tab, tap the Menu key.
    3. Scroll to and tap Contacts to display.
    4. Tap All contacts.
    5. You can now see all of your contacts.

  • Memory card

    If you saved your contacts to the memory card on either your Samsung Galaxy S® III or a previous device, you can recover your contacts.

    1. From the home screen, tap Contacts.
    2. From the Contacts tab, tap the Menu key.
    3. Tap Import/Export.
    4. Tap Import from SD card.
    5. Tap the preferred save location.
    6. Your Samsung Galaxy S III automatically searches for contact (vCard) files on the memory card. If the search returns more than one contact file, tap the preferred file and tap OK.

  • Google Sync™

    Google Sync is a free service that synchronizes your Samsung Galaxy S III with your Google™ (Gmail™) account. If you've saved your contacts to your Google account, you can restore them to your device.

    1. From the home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to and tap Add account.
    4. Tap Google.
    5. Tap Existing.
    6. Enter your Google account credentials.
    7. Tap the Next arrow.
    8. Tap OK.
    9. You can also set up a credit card.
      • Follow the prompts and tap Set up credit card.
      • To skip this step, tap Not now.
    10. Tap to check to uncheck the preferred sync options.
    11. Tap the Next arrow.
    12. You've now added the Google account.

  • Bluetooth®

    Some Bluetooth-enabled devices have Bluetooth file transfer capabilities. If you stored your contacts on another Bluetooth-enabled device, you can recover your contacts.

    1. Be sure you have Bluetooth enabled on the other device and ready to pair.
    2. From the Samsung Galaxy S III home screen, tap the Menu key.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Bluetooth.
    5. Tap the Bluetooth slider to ON if it isn't already selected.
    6. Your device searches for available Bluetooth devices within range. Tap the name of the other device.
    7. If a Bluetooth pairing request displays, verify the passkeys match and tap OK.
      • If prompted, enter the passkey and tap OK.
      • If you're unsure of the passkey, try entering 0000 or 1234 (the default for most Bluetooth devices).
    8. After you've paired the devices, begin the transfer of contacts from the other device.
    9. After the transfer is complete, open the file on your Samsung Galaxy S III and follow the prompts to load your contacts into your contact list.

      10. Note: Sprint recommends you save your contacts to your Google account.
