Troubleshoot Activation Issues

Last Updated: Nov 23, 2015

This article helps troubleshoot activation issues on your ALCATEL ONETOUCH Retro.

Symptoms:

  • Phone states, "Emergency calls only"
  • Unable to begin activation process
  • Activation begins but doesn't complete

Troubleshooting Steps:

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If you have uncovered an issue that you can't fix, make an appointment at a convenient Sprint Repair center or contact Sprint Customer Care for more help.

  1. Is cellular coverage available in the area?

If signal strength is low or absent, the device may not be able to complete activation. Objects between the device and towers can effect signal strength. Moving closer to a window or stepping outside may also help. Some buildings and the electronic components in them can interfere with reception. Moving to a position where the network and phone are not blocked by physical objects can allow the necessary connection to be completed.

Note: Other devices from the same carrier behaving similarly at the same location indicates a coverage or network problem.

  2. Are the account provisions and settings correct?

If unable to place calls after activation or if activation is failing, the carrier may need to be contacted to verify the account settings are correct. Many carriers have a manual activation process that requires the use of specific codes to be entered into the handset to force activation but can only be obtained from the carrier.
