Troubleshoot device slowing, freezing, switching off, or power cycling unexpectedly

Last Updated: Aug 03, 2016

This article helps troubleshoot your Apple iPad mini 3 slowing, freezing, locking up, turning off, or power cycling unexpectedly

You may have performance issues if your device:

  • Performs slowly
  • Freezes
  • Switches off or unexpectedly turns off and back on
  • Displays error messages
  • Is unable to install or update applications

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If not, continue to the next step.

  1. Perform a soft reset.

A soft reset deletes any temporary files that may be causing the issue.

    1. From the home screen, press and hold the Power key and the Home key.
    2. Release the Power key and the Home key when the Apple logo appears.
    3. Your Apple iPad mini 3 will restart.
    4. Test your device to see if the issue is resolved.
  2. Charge your iPad.

If your iPad is low on battery, it will attempt to extend the battery life by slowing performance down. If an application or background process requires higher performance, it may make the iPad appear freeze or slowdown. Charging your device will provide enough power for the iPad to function normally.

  3. Verify if low storage space is an issue on your Apple iPad mini 3.

Performance issues can arise when the device has low internal memory. Troubleshoot low memory.

  4. Close applications that may be running in the background.

Some applications continue to run in the background after you exit that application and can cause performance issues. Sprint recommends that you close background applications when you're not using them.

  5. Uninstall recently installed applications.

If the performance issues began after you installed a particular application, try uninstalling it. See if the issue is resolved. Some applications may freeze or slow your device's performance. The download process may require you to accept a variety of permissions that allow the application to control or modify your operating system.

    Uninstall an application.

Note: To optimize device performance, be sure the device is running the most recent device software. Check for software updates.
