You may have this issue if your device:

  • Doesn't turn on the touchscreen, despite pressing and holding the power key
  • Begins to load but restarts or shuts down before the loading process completes

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If not, continue to the next step.

  1. Verify that your iPad has a sufficient charge.

    1. Connect your original charger to your iPad.
    2. After a few minutes, try to turn on your iPad.
  2. Verify that your iPad and charging port are not damaged.

    1. Carefully inspect your iPad to be sure it's not overheating, swollen or damaged.
    2. Carefully inspect your iPad's charging port and remove any debris.

    Caution: If your iPad is damaged, do not complete the remaining steps in this guide and contact Apple Customer Support.

  3. Verify that you are using a compatible charger.

    You risk severe damage to your iPad if the charger isn't the same voltage, amps, and plug type as your original charger. You can purchase compatible chargers at any Apple Store.

  4. Verify that your Apple iPad mini 4 can power on.

    1. Press and hold the Power key to turn your iPad on.
  5. If your iPad does turn on, verify that it is running the most recent software.

    1. From the home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Scroll to and tap General.
