Troubleshoot shortened battery life on your HTC One A9

This article helps you troubleshoot battery life issues on your HTC One A9

You may have battery issues if:

  • Your HTC One® A9 consistently displays a low charge
  • The battery drains quickly

Try each of these steps to see if it helps your charge last longer.

  1. Learn what apps are using the most power.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Scroll to and tap Support.
    3. Tap Diagnostics.
    4. Tap Battery usage.
    5. Your battery history and the power usage of each app are displayed.
  2. Change settings to reduce power usage.

    1. From the Sprint Zone home screen, scroll to and tap Support.
    2. Tap Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Current power settings.
    4. Tap each option to ensure it is set to use the least power:
      • Screen Brightness: Adjust the Brightness slider to the lowest comfortable level.
      • Screen Timeout: Tap Screen timeout and select the shortest comfortable duration.
      • Wi-Fi: When Wi-Fi is available, ensure that Wi-Fi is On and connected. Otherwise, tap the Wi-Fi switch to turn off Wi-Fi.
      • GPS Satellite: Set to Off by tapping Mode, then tapping Battery saving.
      • GPS Network: Tap to enable or disable the Location switch as needed.
      • Auto Sync: Tap the account types, tap each account name if prompted, then tap to disable all unneeded sync options.
    5. Close or uninstall applications to improve battery life.

      • Some apps run in the background when you are not using them.
      • Also, some apps consume more energy than others.
      • Some apps come pre-loaded on your phone and you can't uninstall them.
      1. From the Sprint Zone home screen, scroll to and tap Support.
      2. Tap Diagnostics.
      3. Tap Battery Usage.
      4. Tap the application you want to close or uninstall.
      5. Tap App info.
        • Close (turn off) an application: Tap Force stop.
        • Uninstall (remove from phone) an application: Tap App info, Uninstall or Disable, and then OK.
    6. Verify that your HTC One A9 is running the most recent software.

      1. From the Sprint Zone home screen, scroll to and tap Support.
      2. Tap Diagnostics.
      3. Tap Device Software.
      4. Tap CHECK FOR UPDATE.
        • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install.
    7. Safely remove your SD card.

      1. From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Scroll to and tap Storage & USB.
      4. Tap the Eject icon under REMOVABLE STORAGE.
      5. Push an eject tool into the SD card tray ejection hole.
      6. Pull the SD card tray out.
      7. Remove the SD card.
      8. Replace the SD card tray.
    8. Perform a soft reset.

      A soft reset restarts your phone and does not erase any of your content or data.

      1. Hold the Power and Volume Up keys for ten seconds.
      2. Your phone will restart.
    9. Verify that your charger is working.

      Note: You risk severe damage to your phone if the charger isn't the same voltage, amps, and plug type as your original charger. You can purchase compatible chargers on sprint.com and at any Sprint Store.

      1. Connect your phone to your charger.
      2. Verify that the Charging icon is displayed in the Status bar.
