Troubleshoot shortened battery life on your LG G4

This article helps you troubleshoot battery life issues on your LG G4

You may have battery issues if:

  • Your LG G4™ consistently displays a low charge
  • The battery drains quickly

Try each of these steps to see if it helps your charge last longer.

  1. In Sprint Zone browse Power Usage and learn how your current power settings affect battery life.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap Power Usage.
      • Overview: Displays your current power usage level and power mode.
      • Power Usage Details: Shows your power usage over time and which features use your battery the most.
        • Battery Usage: Shows battery history and the power usage of each app.
        • Current Power Settings: Shows settings that can affect battery life. Tap an item to change the setting.
        • Select Power Mode: Helps change settings to extend battery life.
      • Learn More: Provides more information on battery life.
  2. Change the power settings to Low Power.

    1. From within Sprint Zone, swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    2. Tap Power Usage.
    3. Tap Select Power Mode.
    4. Tap Apply.
    5. Note: If Apply is not available, tap Continue, tap Settings, tap the Location switch off, then tap the Back key to return to Sprint Zone.

  3. Close or uninstall applications to improve battery life.

    • Some apps run in the background when you are not using them, which in certain cases will use more energy.
    • Some apps come pre-loaded on your phone and you can't uninstall them.
    1. From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. In the General tab, scroll to and tap Apps.
    4. Tap an application.
      • Close (turn off) an application: Tap Force stop, then tap YES.
      • Uninstall (remove from phone) an application: Tap Uninstall, then tap OK.
  4. Verify that your LG G4 is running the most recent software.

    1. Access Sprint Zone.
    2. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    3. Tap System Updates.
    4. Tap Device Software.
      • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install.
  5. Safely remove your SD card.

    1. Turn your phone off.
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. Remove the SD card.
    4. Reinsert the battery.
    5. Turn your phone back on.
  6. Verify that your charger is working.

    Note: You risk severe damage to your phone if the charger isn't the same voltage, amps, and plug type as your original charger. You can purchase compatible chargers on and at any Sprint Store.

    1. Connect your phone to your charger.
    2. Access Sprint Zone.
    3. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
    4. Tap Battery Status.
