Troubleshoot issues related to activation, unable to activate on your Nexus 5X

Last Updated: Aug 03, 2016

This article helps troubleshoot activation issues on your Nexus 5X

You may have activation issues if your phone:

  • Does not complete hand-free activation
  • Has trouble activating

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If you have uncovered an issue that you can't fix, make an appointment at a convenient Sprint Repair center or contact Sprint Customer Care for more help.

  1. Verify your SIM card is properly inserted.

An improperly placed or missing SIM card can prevent your phone from activating. Ensure the SIM is properly inserted.

Install or replace the SIM card

Note: You can obtain a compatible Sprint SIM card by visiting a convenient Sprint Repair center.

  2. Verify airplane mode is turned off on the Nexus 5X.

    1. From the home screen, swipe down the Status bar.
    2. Tap the Status bar to open Quick Settings.
    3. If Airplane mode is enabled, tap to disable it.
    4. Note: When disabled, the icon will be grey with a line through it.

  3. Verify if coverage is available at your current location.

If your Nexus 5X has low signal strength, see if your location is within Sprint network coverage on the Sprint coverage map.

  4. Perform a soft reset.

    1. Press and hold the Power key for 8 seconds.
    2. The phone will power off and back on.
  5. Update the PRL

Keeping your Preferred Roaming List (PRL) up-to-date can improve your network coverage.
